United Rheumatology and Blue Shield of California Join Forces to Manage the Cost and Quality of Care for Rheumatologic Patients
Value-Based Program to Improve Outcomes and Enhance Patient Experience
United Rheumatology, the pre-eminent national rheumatology care management organization known for empowering rheumatologists to advance the standard of care, today announced a collaboration with Blue Shield of California to manage the cost and quality of rheumatologic care provided to Blue Shield members.
This collaboration involving a pilot program places United Rheumatology and Blue Shield of California at the epicenter of a value-based program model that incorporates shared decision-making between United Rheumatology’s affiliated physicians and their patients. United Rheumatology and Blue Shield of California will work together to help improve outcomes, elevate the patient experience, and manage the cost of care for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
“We are very excited to partner with Blue Shield of California on this unique opportunity. This progressive health plan is providing the support to pilot value-based approaches to the treatment of this chronic disease and recognizes the value that community-based physicians bring to managing the overall care of these patients”, stated Jim Albano, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Rheumatology.
“Blue Shield is delighted to be partnering with United Rheumatology to test an innovative approach to provide value-based care for rheumatology patients. Working with physicians to implement these methods, the goal will be better health outcomes and improved experiences for our members,” said Laura Fox, Blue Shield of California’s Director of Payment Innovation.
