Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 – Amendment to MACRA

Since the issuance of the MIPS Final Rule for 2018, rheumatologists and other specialists have expressed concern that Part B drug payments would be subject to MIPS payment adjustment. However, the recent passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 includes an amendment to MACRA that replaces the term “items and services”  with “covered professional services” as it pertains to MIPS payment adjustment. The effect of this change is to exclude payments for Part B drug from MIPS adjustment. Along with other specialty organizations, United Rheumatology supported this change in law.
